Swamp Soccer 2007

Enthusiastic at the sterling job Tricker PR made at gaining coverage for Swamp Soccer 2006, organisers approached us to promote the 2007 tournament with an emphasis on receiving television coverage and attracting 20% of the teams from outside Scotland.

Swamp Soccer, six-a-side football on a pitch made entirely of mud, obviously makes for some interesting visuals so Tricker PR approached the campaign with this in mind. Undertaking a targeted and highly creative PR strategy, the campaign consisted of a series of releases including long lead ...what...s on... coverage in relevant publications, one-to-one selling-in of targeted television opportunities and a variety of features in men...s interest magazines. It proved extremely effective to offer media trips to Dunoon, where the event is held, to sample and film Swamp Soccer matches in advance of the actual tournament.

Tricker PR was successful in generating 9 pieces of television coverage including BBC Breakfast News, BBC World, Scotland Today, The Paul O...Grady Show and Sky News as well as BBC News 24, Blue Peter and CNN News. Coverage also took the form of 23 newspaper features, 2 men...s interest publications, 8 pieces of radio coverage and 38 online pieces. A total of 80 pieces of coverage was achieved in six weeks.

Registration had to be closed for Swamp Soccer 2007 when 48 teams registered, as accommodation in the area was fully booked.

Teams from Australia, England, Ireland, Wales, Finland, Germany, Belgium, France, Estonia and Scotland all took part 50% of all teams registered were from outwith Scotland, which was 30% above the target.
